TAD and Brocksieper – a Longstanding Partnership
Stefan Brocksieper designs and handcrafts his tube amplifiers for HiFi in his small workshop and supplies them to audiophile sound enthusiasts around the world. We have had these small, openly designed amplifiers in our lineup for over 15 years and are proud to still offer the EARMAX-Pro and EARMAX-Silver Edition models, which have hardly changed to this day.
Why Use a Headphone Amplifier?
Many systems and HiFi components already have headphone outputs for connecting headphones via a headphone jack cable. So why should the avid music enthusiast use a separate headphone amplifier? Inside all devices that have a headphone jack, there is a small headphone amplifier at work. These components increase the level to drive the small speakers in the headphones. Typically, these devices built into the system from the factory are not suitable in terms of power and sound quality to produce truly high-quality sounds.
Headphone amplifiers deliver the signal clearly and with low distortion to the listeners and can also drive high-quality devices with very low-impedance inputs. Additional bonus: By avoiding distortions, unpleasant and potentially dangerous sounds are filtered out or avoided.
EARMAX - Silver and Pro
Our favorite in the field of headphone amplifiers comes from the aforementioned small workshop and goes by the names Pro and Silver Edition.
EARMAX Pro
The original among these amplifiers offers an ultimate listening experience for dynamic headphones with medium and high impedance. Typically, headphones with an input impedance of 200-2000 ohms benefit particularly from the incredible quality of the EARMAX Pro. With just under 10 cm cubed, the EARMAX takes up no space and, due to its puristic design, looks like a design object. Selected and matched HiFi tubes, an external power supply, and quality Made in Germany make the EARMAX Pro the ultimate for HiFi fans.
EARMAX Silver Edition
The EARMAX Silver Edition was introduced back in 2005. The amplifier, aimed at lower input impedances, offers a different design in the electronics. By selecting other components, the EARMAX Pro has a larger headroom of +12db compared to the EARMAX Pro. When using Grado headphones, the Silver Edition is therefore superior to its black counterpart.
Headphones with an impedance of at least 35 ohms are just right for the EARMAX Silver Edition.
