Tube sockets and accessories - truly everything for the tube!
Long live tube technology! Naturally, as Tube Amp Doctor, we respect and love the pure and unadulterated valve sound. To truly get everything out of these small, glowing charms, a whole range of valve accessories, valve bases, and components are needed – of course, we can help our customers with these too!
Accessories for the vacuum tube – what parts are needed?
Since 1993, our approach has been clear: When it comes to good sound, we do not compromise. The fact that valve technology is still indispensable in the music scene today shows we were right. Tubes are delicate components that require care and attention – valve sockets, clamps, and retainers – the list is (almost) endless!
Tube sockets - what should you pay attention to?
Amplifiers with valve preamp and power stages utilize the power of fragile vacuum tubes to convert a very low input voltage into an output voltage that speakers can translate. To be able to perform their work and be properly utilized, tubes thus require the corresponding sockets. Vacuum valves are connected to the amplifier through so-called pin sockets, which accommodate and secure the pins present at the base of the tube. The usual materials for these sockets are plastic or ceramic – depending on the desired specification.
What types of sockets are there?
There are typically four different types of valve bases, which, besides their geometric shape, differ primarily in the number of pins through which the tubes are anchored in the socket and through which electricity flows once the tube is activated. The most common sockets our customers will find in our assortment are:
Noval - 9 Pin
9 connection pins keep the Noval sockets connected to the tube. This valve type has been used since 1948 and remains very popular today.
Octal - 8-Pin
Developed in the 1930s, Octal sockets are still popular today. For example, the 6L6 valve uses these valve sockets.
B7G - 7-Pin
B7G tube sockets are suitable for valves such as the 6C4 or EC92.
UX4 - 4-Pin
Real valve history: These valve bases were mainly used in the 1920s and 1930s – but can still be found today! We also have the suitable 300B, 2A3, 811 tubes.
Packaging, clamps, and co. - additional accessories
We also offer our customers everything else related to the tube: From valve boxes for currently unused valves, to retainers and clamps, to universal mounting clips – we have it in stock!
