TAD Reverb Tanks — More Reverb for Your Amp
Ever since Fender introduced amps with built-in spring reverb, reverb has become an integral part of modern music. While many modern amps rely on digitally generated guitar effects, high-quality tube amps still often use traditional spring reverb tanks. The result is an organic, highly dynamic reverb character that adds deeper tonal variety and richer harmonics. With our TAD reverb tanks, we offer you premium components for restoring existing systems or for a complete redesign of a tube amp.
TAD Reverb Tanks — Build Types
Thank goodness for clear classification! To find out which spring reverb type is used — or should be used — in your amplifier, it helps to know that the available systems are divided into four main types.
Type 4 — The Industry Standard
Since Leo Fender introduced this system in his legendary Fender Twin Reverb amps, Type 4 has remained the industry standard for reverb tanks.
The four counter-wound springs run across a length of 42.5 cm and operate as a 2x2 system. The result with our TAD Type 4 reverb tanks: balanced tone and a beautifully organic reverb behaviour.
Type 8 — Compact Solution
Whenever great sound quality needs to fit into a compact housing, our TAD Type 8 reverb tanks are the answer. The three counter-wound springs produce a rich, full sound that rivals many four-spring units. Measuring just 23.5 cm, this form factor fits perfectly in amps designed with space-saving enclosures.
Type 9 — Full-Bodied Reverb
With six springs and a total length of 42.5 cm, the Type 9 reverb tank is designed for the fullest, richest reverb possible. Used in many Mesa Boogie guitar amps since the 1970s, the Type 9’s strength lies in its versatility — lap steel guitars, keyboards and PA systems also benefit from its performance.
The Right Spring for Your System — Our Coding System
Finding the right parts for your amp isn’t always easy. There are thousands of labels, specs and functions, and compatibility isn’t always clear.
That’s why we’ve listed our TAD reverb tanks using a simple seven-digit code:
1st digit = Type of reverb tank
2nd digit = Input impedance
3rd digit = Output impedance
4th digit = Decay time
5th digit = Connectors
6th digit = Locking method
7th digit = Mounting position
This makes it quick and easy to identify the right spring for your setup.
