Preamp tubes
The preamp stage of the tube amp amplifies the small input signal from the guitar (or the pickup) to the necessary level, making it "tangible" for further processing. Preamp valves are double triodes that have a significant impact on the sound of the amplifier. Distortion and natural sound can be influenced by changes in the preamp tubes.
Power valves
The power stage amplifies the processed guitar signal to a level that can drive the connected speakers. In the power stage, power tubes, i.e., pentodes, perform this work under heavy load. Cleanly matched power valves give the sound a natural tone without unduly distorting it.
Rectifiers
Rectifiers are tubes that convert mains voltage and thus influence the sound of the amp. Due to the higher internal resistance, the signal is "weakened," and the amplification appears somewhat softer.
HiFi / triodes / transmitting valves
Not just instrument amplifiers seek to draw their power from vacuum valves. High-quality HiFi amplifiers also utilize the organic and natural sound quality of a tube-based amplification of the input signal.
