Beware of Our Roughneck!

The TAD EL84-CZ is the muscle man and roughneck among the EL84 models. It gives most amps

an extra powerful bass response. Be careful with amps that do already have a fat bass and make

sure their speaker can handle the increased bottom end as it might become too much. The EL84-Cz

is the most powerful EL84 tube we have ever heard. Big tone and very dynamic. Our recommendation, if a

powerful tone is what you are looking for.

Due to its diameter of 22.5mm, the TAD EL84-Cz does not fit into older Marshall DSL401 and UK made VOX AC15 TBX amplifiers. The only tube which fits these amps is the EL84-EI. (ordering number: NN471)

Good sounding tubes.

These tubes sound really good in my EKCO EVA stereo amp. The amp lived up and sounds more “up front” with tighter bass and more details in the middle range. I use a pair of two way speakers with an 8” and 1”, medium sized housing. I found that I hear bass notes better and rhythm is easy to follow.

Great tube. Put a quad of these in my Budda Superdrive 30 and it tightened and opened up the whole amp. Great big tone with lots of definition and smooth harmonics!

By the way, on one of the tubes I broke a pin accidentally, and TAD sent a free and matched replacement, great service!

When does a tube become a Premium Selected tube?

Power tubes

All power tubes labeled Premium Selected have passed the following tests:

- Plate Current (PC) and Amplification (TC)

- Low Noise Test

- Microphonic Test

- Sonic Tests

- Shock Tests

- Listening Tests

- Shorts & Leakage Tests

Premium RT-Matching of Power Tubes

Our Premium Matching is an exact matching of power tubes with identical Plate Current (PC) and Transconductance (TC).

TAD Premium Selected tubes are guaranteed for a period of 6 months (according to terms of warranties)

for the quality criteria mentioned above.

Preamp tubes

All preamp tubes labeled Premium Selected have passed the following tests:

- Low Noise Test

- Microphonic Test

- Gain Test

- Sonic Tests

- Shock Tests

- Listening Tests

- Balanced Output Test

Premium Selected

We call the tubes SELECTED which have passed above tests and thus qualify as reliable all-round tubes of their type.Typically this is around 30-60% from a batch that receives the SELECTED label from TAD.

For applications in particularly sensitive functions such as V1 or input stage with combo amps, V1 in high-gain amps, tube microphones and phono preamps, we recommend using the respective HIGHGRADE selection

HIGHGRADE SELECTION

But only those tubes which pass these tests best are labeled Highgrades.Typically this is approx. 3-10% from a production batch that qualifies for the HIGHGRADE rating from TAD.

Matching and Selecting Options for Preamp Tubes

Matching in Pairs for preamp tubes means that two tubes show identical gain, hence, four characteristically identical systems.

This matching method includes our Balance-Selection. We highly recommend this matching method for hi-fi systems.
