This TAD 12AU7A / ECC82 has especially strong systems which are selected to provide two symmetrically amplifying triodes - also called "balanced". The perfect choice for stereo audio applications and ideal as a balanced driver while providing great musical performance and rich tone.

Update FEB-2022: the new and upgraded version provides a more detailed resolution and representation. Especially when listening to voices, strings and cymbals, a vividly authentic and three-dimensional tone is presented, making the new TAD 12AU7A / ECC82 Premium Selected unique and outstanding.

For my phono pre I tried three different tubes, purchased on this same site. The Siemens, RT 085 and RT005, I prefer the last two. RT 005 is very musical, warm, neutral, detailed with excellent instrumental separation in a bit of low in less, as soon as I tried my reaction was ooohhh.L 'rt 085 is a little bit more complete than the rt005, with a little more bass, but less musical. their advice and for timely shipments.

This is my first experience with TAD tubes, i was a bit reluctant, but i decided to take a leap of faith. The sound coming from this tube is very clean, precise, it's somewhere between warm and neutral (leaning more towards neutral), but very musical nontheless at least to my ears, at the same time very dynamic and snappy. It will reward you with a very big sound field, lots of air (be aware this is not a fat sounding tube, instead it has a very laid back presentation), very tight bass, not punchy, just fine sounding. The decay of each note is marvelous. Voices sound quite natural. The background is very quiet, chords from instruments such as guitars don't sound ideal, i think they sound a bit synthetic (but this is only if pay very very close attention). Overall this tube sounds very sophisticated, it draws in. It may sound bright in the beginning, but give it some time, i noticed the bass developed in terms of impact after the first 8 hours of listening.

When does a tube become a Premium Selected tube?

Power tubes

All power tubes labeled Premium Selected have passed the following tests:

- Plate Current (PC) and Amplification (TC)

- Low Noise Test

- Microphonic Test

- Sonic Tests

- Shock Tests

- Listening Tests

- Shorts & Leakage Tests

Premium RT-Matching of Power Tubes

Our Premium Matching is an exact matching of power tubes with identical Plate Current (PC) and Transconductance (TC).

TAD Premium Selected tubes are guaranteed for a period of 6 months (according to terms of warranties)

for the quality criteria mentioned above.

Preamp tubes

All preamp tubes labeled Premium Selected have passed the following tests:

- Low Noise Test

- Microphonic Test

- Gain Test

- Sonic Tests

- Shock Tests

- Listening Tests

- Balanced Output Test

Premium Selected

We call the tubes SELECTED which have passed above tests and thus qualify as reliable all-round tubes of their type.Typically this is around 30-60% from a batch that receives the SELECTED label from TAD.

For applications in particularly sensitive functions such as V1 or input stage with combo amps, V1 in high-gain amps, tube microphones and phono preamps, we recommend using the respective HIGHGRADE selection

HIGHGRADE SELECTION

But only those tubes which pass these tests best are labeled Highgrades.Typically this is approx. 3-10% from a production batch that qualifies for the HIGHGRADE rating from TAD.

Matching and Selecting Options for Preamp Tubes

Matching in Pairs for preamp tubes means that two tubes show identical gain, hence, four characteristically identical systems.

This matching method includes our Balance-Selection. We highly recommend this matching method for hi-fi systems.
